My teaching spans undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programmes in international relations, diplomacy, comparative politics, foreign policy, international political economy and global governance.
Summer Semester 2026
IRL 3100 – Diplomacy
Undergraduate
Introduces students to the theory and practice of diplomacy, including diplomatic history, bilateral and multilateral diplomacy, diplomatic law, negotiation, public and digital diplomacy, crisis management, consular affairs and contemporary transformations in diplomatic practice.
IRL 6210 – Foundations of Diplomacy
Graduate
Examines the conceptual, historical and institutional foundations of diplomacy. The course explores diplomatic representation, negotiation, mediation, protocol, diplomatic communication, foreign ministries and the changing role of diplomacy in contemporary international affairs.
IRL 6250 – Africa in International Affairs
Graduate
Explores Africa’s position, agency and influence in international affairs. Topics include African international relations, regional integration, peace and security, democratization, foreign intervention, development partnerships, emerging powers and the role of the African Union and regional economic communities.
Spring Semester 2026
IRL 6234 – International Political Economy
Graduate
Examines the relationship between politics and economics in the international system. Key themes include globalization, international trade and finance, development, debt, economic inequality, multinational corporations, regional integration and the political economy of Africa.
IRL 6200 – International Organizations and Global Governance
Graduate
Analyses the origins, structures and functions of international and regional organizations. The course covers the United Nations, African Union, regional economic communities, international financial institutions and contemporary debates about multilateralism and global governance.
Fall Semester 2025
IRL 6004 – Foundations of International Relations
Graduate
Provides an advanced introduction to the principal concepts, theories, actors and debates in international relations. Students examine power, sovereignty, security, cooperation, conflict, international institutions and the changing structure of the international system.
IRL 7009 – Comparative Politics
Doctoral
Engages doctoral students with the principal theoretical, methodological and empirical debates in comparative politics. The course examines states, institutions, political regimes, democratization, authoritarianism, political parties, elections and comparative research design.
IRL 6260 – Foreign Policy Analysis
Graduate
Examines how states formulate and implement foreign policy. The course considers leadership, institutions, domestic politics, bureaucratic processes, identity, public opinion and international pressures, with particular attention to African foreign-policy cases.
